Pakistan’s first female architect got Jean Drew award.
Yasmeen Lari is the first female architect of Pakistan. Yasmeen Lari was born in 1941. Pakistan’s first female architect Yasmeen Lari received prestigious international award for 2020.
According to the architect journal, Yasmin Lari has been honored for her services in promoting the profile of women in architecture and design.
Apart from 79 year old Yasmeen Lari, various architects from around the world have won the award, but Yasmeen Lari from Pakistan is the first woman to receive the award.
Yasmeen Lari has many services for Pakistan. Her services in architecture are commendable. Her work gained much popularity in Karachi. Thirteen sketches of the famous buildings of Karachi are made by her.
Ms. Yasmin began her journey at Oxford Brooks School of Architecture in 1964.
Her architecture includes the Finance Trade Center in Karachi (1983-89) and the Pakistan State Oil House (1985-91). She is also credited with designing the 1973 Angori Bagh Housing Project (Lahore).
She has also attributed to architecture in Japan. In addition to all these achievements, she has received the prestigious “Fukuoka” award for her work on Humanitarian Relief and the Historic Dialogue Project.
In addition to architecture, Yasmin Lari has also served in Barefoot.
Note: Barefoot aims to provide a sustainable environment and participants to uplift the underprivileged.
In connection to this, community centers have been constructed for flood victims in the backward areas of the country and established a library with the help of philanthropists to promote further educational activities in rural Sindh.
Remember, that Jean Dravid Award is an architectural award given by the Architect Journal to individuals for their innovation, diversity and comprehensiveness in the field of architecture each year. This year, Pakistan won the award.
